Background: Our client faced significant federal tax liabilities stemming from a failed family business venture. The situation worsened when he discovered that his passport had been frozen due to an outstanding balance of over $100,000 owed to the IRS. This freeze came at a particularly challenging time, as he wished to visit a sick grandparent in Europe.
Challenges: The IRS has employed a collection tactic where they request the U.S. Secretary of State to impose a passport freeze on taxpayers with substantial unpaid balances. This policy had a direct impact on our client’s ability to travel abroad.
Result: Our office acted quickly to negotiate an Installment Agreement with the IRS, resulting in the release of the client’s passport, and restoring his ability to travel.
